    Does anyone know whether there’s the equivalent of an ‘O doctor optime’ (Augustine or Aquinas, depending on where you’re singing it!) antiphon in honour of St Anne, mother of the BVM?

    ‘O doctor optime’ is (in the EF) a Magnificat antiphon of feasts of both mentioned saints, taken from the Common of Doctors. Similarly St. Anne would be commemorated in the EF world with a Magnificat antiphon from the Common of "not Virgins, not Martyrs", https://gregobase.selapa.net/chant.php?id=2275 ; in the OF the memorial of St. Joachim and Anne has proper antiphons, Magnificat antiphon being https://gregobase.selapa.net/chant.php?id=8840

    Yeah, I have no idea what the original post is about, sorry. Now there are antiphons that are used outside of the office as the OP does for St Dominic after Compline — is that what you mean? FWIW, the Magnificat antiphon of II Vespers of the titular feast (from the common if the feast of title is something like the Assumption) is taken for the visitation of a bishop in the TLM world. For better or worse, the Roman rite doesn't have many extra antiphons for things like singing out of devotion.

    Matthew Roth, there is a significant historical legacy of the adoption of Office antiphons for uses outside their original setting for the purposes of devotion (see for instance the ‘Salve’ ceremony, which followed compline in some places). The Dominicans in some houses will sing the ‘O Doctor Optime’ either before or after the ‘Salve’ of the day - I can’t remember which anymore.

    One will also find the tendency to set office texts as motets among 16th and 17th century composers… which were clearly not intended in most instances for insertion in the office where the text would normally be found because they do not sit comfortably with the modes etc of the surrounding chant.

    I am seeking a suitable antiphon in honour of St Anne in the context of these legacies, preferably one that is singable by a congregation.

    I mentioned the Dominicans, yes… (they normally sing O Lumen Ecclesiae, after the Salve; I’ve not seen an antiphon for Doctors in that context.)

    I thought this would be a devotional item... I assumed you wanted a fancy Responsory / Antiphon, although if it needs to be congregational why not use a hymn?
