As part of Colloquium XXIV, we are thrilled to announce this year’s organ recitalist who will present a program of music showcasing all the Indianapolis Christ Church Cathedral’s organs.
At 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, Simon Thomas Jacobs will give an organ concert at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis. Christ Church Cathedral is located directly across the street from the Sheraton City Centre Hotel, where most of the sessions will be held during the week. Both the hotel and the Cathedral are just steps away from Indianapolis’ Monument Circle.
Jacobs, who is associate organist and choirmaster at Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis, won both first prize and the audience prize at the 2013 St Albans International Organ Competition. He’ll perform recitals at some of the world’s most esteemed concert venues as a result.
A native of Great Britain, Simon graduated with an honors degree in music from Clare College, University of Cambridge. He has been awarded a full scholarship to the Artist Diploma program at Oberlin College, where he will be studying with James David Christie.
He will also be recording his first solo disc as part of Priory’s “Great European Organs” series.
Christ Church Cathedral has three organs:
The Chancel Organ (Hellmuth Wolff & Assoc., Op. 32 – 1990)
The Ruth Lilly Memorial Gallery Organ (Taylor and boody Organ Builders, Op. 19 – 1992)
Frederick E. Weber Memorial Continuo Positive Organ (Brombaugh Organ Builders – 1996)
Simon plans to play selections on each of the three organs during the concert. To find out more about Simon Thomas Jacobs and to hear recordings, visit his site.
